Workshops - Cardiff 2019

Bookings for workshops are on ‘first come first served’ basis with places being allocated according to the date your convention registration and payment are received. 

FRIDAY  6TH SEPTEMBER

BEAR HEAD IN MOHAIR FABRIC

Presented by Lydia Barnard             GDS Great Western

Students will create a bears head in mohair fabric and mount in a matching flower.                                                                         Different colours of mohair & matching flowers will be available.                                                                                                         Students should bring a sewing kit and scissors.

NEEDLE NEST

Presented by Southern Belles Chapter

Using simple hand sewing techniques students will create a folding needle case, useful for transporting needles and pins to workshops or keeping in a bag. Made from 100% cotton fabric with wool felt interior and mother of pearl button.

All materials will be provided and students should bring a sewing kit and scissors.

STAINED GLASS

Presented by Caroline Durbin      GDS Great Western    1* Teacher

Caroline will demonstrate two different techniques of stained glass making and will have some examples of her work to show you.

A donation to the cost of the room would be much appreciated.

SATURDAY  7TH SEPTEMBER

CROCHET HINTS AND TIPS

Presented by Amanda Brooks     GDS Great Western   1* Teacher

Amanda will be able to give tips on understanding patterns and basic crochet techniques for beginners plus handy hints for those who are more advanced.

If you want to bring your own hook and threads you are welcome to do so but she will have some available for you to use.

MUSICAL AUTOMATON (24CM)

Presented by Rosemarie Kunz      GDS Swiss Doll Fans  3*Teacher & Judge    DAG Instructor

Students will create a beautiful painted porcelain clown, dressed in a white batiste costume, trimmed with silk ribbons, pompoms, silk collar and porcelain roses. the clown holds a silk rose and stands on a porcelain base. Students will also paint a tiny mask and decorate with marabou, silk ribbons and crystals. The mask moves up and down.

All materials are included. Students should bring brushes for acrylic paints, glue, sewing kit and scissors.

RIBBON EMBROIDERY PANSIES PICTURE

Presented by Iryna Marchenko     GDS  UAHA Chapter

Students will learn the decorative art of silk ribbon embroidery and create a 16cm x 16cm picture of Pansies.

All materials including a frame will be included in the workshop. Students should bring a sewing kit and scissors.

PINCUSHION ‘FRIENDLY FUN’

Presented by Oksana Voropai           GDS UAHA Chapter     

Students will create an amusing pincushion which will bring friendly warmth to your work space! All materials and beads plus printed step-by-step instructions will be provided.

Students should bring a sewing kit and scissors.

BABY BONNET USING FRENCH HAND SEWING TECHNIQUES

Students with sew a antique style baby bonnet using French hand sewing techniques.All materials will be provided as well as an instruction booklet. Students should bring a sewing kit and embroidery scissors.

DRESSED TORSO

Presented by Masumi Bansho     GDS  Great Western

Students will dress a small torso with silk fabric, ribbons and lace and enhance with rhinestones.

All materials will be provided. Students should bring a sewing kit and scissors.

HOOKED WELSH LADY WALL HANGING

Presented by Pat Moore          GDS Southern Belles

Students will create a wall hanging to remind them of their stay in Wales. Local materials are being used including the special hooks to create this piece.

All materials are provided and students should bring scissors and an embroidery frame (not essential).
